Some time ago I came across an interview video of Brewster Kahle on NerdTV, which I found fascinating. Especially when he talked about the history behind web page ranking systems (Alexa, Page Rank) and internet based bussiness models (royalty vs advertisement). All in all, I ended up at http://www.archive.org to try the internet archive that he have helped to build since 1996.
Could my two lost web sites be there? is that possible? I asked myself. There was one way to find out: just searching for the URLs of my two formers sites.
First, I searched for gresco.f2g.net, and it was there! My second website too kawagoe.dyndns.org (never mind Geocities, I've already forgot its URL).
Now, how did Google look like back in 1998? Like this: Google in 1998.
What about Yahoo in 1996? Well, like this: Yahoo in 1996.
And Slashdot? Slashdot in 1998.
They have been archiving the web since 1996, which is simply incredible.
